based on a monologue by Alessandro Baricco
Novecento is a novella by the Italian writer Alessandro Baricco. Novecento was written in 1994 and premiered in July of the same year by the actor Eugenio Allegri in the leading role and the director Gabriele Vacis at the Asti Festival. The monologue is about a fictional, extremely virtuosic pianist named Novecento at the beginning of the 20th century and is one of the most influential and successful postmodern Italian theater pieces. The composition has five movements and lasts about 30 minutes. The piece is available with or without text.
